About University of Malaysia Sabah

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) is an institution of higher education established on 24 November 1994. It is located in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The first development was in 2000 when UMS completed the first phase of its construction on 999-acre land. It also opened an international campus in 1999 located in Labuan. Later on in 2011, UMS also opened an agriculture Campus in Sandakan. 

UMS has a focus on the quality of graduates, institutions, and of the overall system in a variety of fields. With more than 1200 dedicated academicians, many of them have won awards nationally and internationally for their research and innovation. 

UMS offers 64 bachelor programs, with a total of ten faculties.

Under the Ministry of Higher Education Star Rating project (MyMOHES), the university has achieved 5 star ranking. Not long ago, UMS was ranked one of the top 200 in QS World Ranking by Subject in Agriculture and Forestry. The university is also ranked fourth in the top choice universities among Malaysia’s STPM/Matriculation/Foundation leavers. 

 

 

Campus information

Since its establishment, UMS has made continuous effort to develop modern infrastructure, with amazing landscape and stunning structures. It is one of the most beautiful university campuses in Malaysia with its own beach and jetty.

Accommodation

UMS's accommodation consists of terraced houses and apartments.

The residential blocks are called 'Kampung' AB, CD and E located within the University campus. These blocks can hold up to 5,700 students. 

The rest are situated outside, all within easy driving distance.

  • Indah Permai Residential College (1,700 students)
  • Kingfisher Residential College (600 students)

It's beautiful, relaxing, and very blessed with nature around it. However, the food at d canteen is terrible. Food handlers and sanitation should be inspected and monitored all the time so that the students and visitors can avail clean and balanced diet from the food they serve. Over all i am pro... The university is located near the capital of Sabah-Kota Kinabalu. Anyway it is a small town and life is boring compared to the big city. You could find a shuttle bus from the campus to the town and vice versa. It would be more interesting if you travel outside Kota Kinabalu to one of the islands... Read more
