About Emily Carr University of Art and Design

Established in 1925, and based in Vancouver, Emily Carr University of Art + Design is one of Canada's premier post-secondary institutions, and British Columbia's only University dedicated solely to art, design and media education and research.

Our four-year Undergraduate Degrees merge critical theory with community and studio practice, and our two-year Graduate Degrees, in Applied Arts and Design respectively, further prepare students to engage and compete in a growing creative economy, where the demand for visual art, design, and media talent is increasing exponentially. As well, Emily Carr's Department of Continuing Studies offers professional certificates, pre-university and lifelong learning opportunities in these areas.

Campus information

The main campus of Emily Carr University is located on Granville Island in Vancouver, separated from the downtown peninsula by False Creek. It is composed of two buildings, the South building and the North building.

The University has expanded its campus with studio facilities on West 3rd Ave and at the Great Northern Way Campus, an educational consortium operated in conjunction with BCIT, the University of British Columbia, and Simon Fraser University on a downtown land.

Besides, there is also a student union, and a small radio station, Radio Free Emily. Radio Free Emily can be found at frequency 89.3, but the station's weak signal strength makes it only possible to listen to it on or near Granville Island, or online.

The location of Emily Carr University is near a large residential area offering a wide range of off-campus housing options and has recently established a student housing website in order to assists students searching for accommodation.
