Following her visit to Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS)’s office on 8 February, Deputy Minister of Higher Education (MOHE) Datuk Dr Mary Yap said, “The Higher Education Ministry will continue to work with the Immigration Department to eradicate cases of foreign students involved in immoral activities.”

Datuk Ibrahim also shares the same thoughts with Yap as he plans to further “monitor the activities of foreign students in the country.”

EMGS was established in 2012 as a non-profit organisation limited by guarantee under MOHE to process international student visa applications for public and private higher education institutions as well as language schools and skill training centres.

Its CEO Mohd Yazid Abdul Hamid said that there are currently around 6,000 to 7,000 foreign student visa applications a month and 300 to 400 visas are processed daily.

He also mentioned that these visa applications will be thoroughly checked if they have met academic as well as security requirements before being approved.

Yap in the meantime, praised the combined effort of EMGS and the Immigration Department for processing student visas in 7 days compared to the 14-day deadline given by the government last month.
