MSU Strengthens Global Standing in January 2026 with Rankings, Research and Industry Collaboration

Management and Science University (MSU) began 2026 with a series of academic, research, and student-centred initiatives that highlight its continued growth in global engagement, institutional recognition, and student development. Throughout January, the university recorded milestones ranging from international collaborations and symposiums to rankings achievements, student awards, and community-focused initiatives—reflecting its ongoing commitment to holistic education and real-world impact.

Strengthening academic partnerships and assessment collaboration

MSU welcomed the Malaysia Examinations Council (MEC) on 6 January for the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), marking a step forward in strengthening collaboration in English language assessment and academic evaluation.

The partnership supports the administration of the Malaysian University English Test (MUET), which is conducted at multiple locations nationwide, including MSU. Moving forward, the collaboration is expected to expand beyond Malaysia, with MSU set to conduct MUET examinations in other countries, including China, further enhancing access for international candidates.

Advancing research and healthcare dialogue through international symposium

On 7 January, MSU hosted the 25th International Medical, Pharmaceutical, Cosmeceutical & Health Science Symposium (iMPaCHS), bringing together more than 200 participants from academia, healthcare, and research institutions.

The symposium, organised by the International Medical School, School of Pharmacy, and Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, addressed the theme “Empowered Wellness and Lifelong Vitality: Foundations for Healthy Ageing.” Discussions centred on improving quality of life through preventive care, geriatric medicine, and emerging research in clinical and preclinical health sciences.

Researchers and participants from Malaysia and international partner institutions, including Sri Adichunchanagiri University, Pattimura University, and the Polytechnic of ‘Aisyiyah Pontianak, presented studies across areas such as pharmacology, genomics, digital health awareness, and therapeutic innovation. Awards were presented for outstanding oral and poster research contributions, reflecting strong engagement among both internal and external researchers.

Celebrating student leadership, employability, and community impact

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences also hosted the GEmS Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Mentoring (GLEM) Awards on 8 January, recognising student excellence in leadership, sustainability, entrepreneurship, international engagement, and volunteerism.

The awards highlighted achievements across individual, group, and alumni categories, celebrating initiatives such as mentoring programmes, global outreach projects, community welfare activities, and entrepreneurship ventures. Alumni who demonstrated professional growth and industry leadership were also recognised, reinforcing the link between academic experiences and career outcomes.

Promoting wellbeing and campus engagement

MSU introduced the first edition of the MSUFit series on 10 January, with over 150 participants joining a hiking activity at Taman Tugu, Kuala Lumpur.

The initiative, involving staff from multiple university departments, is part of an ongoing programme aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in promoting health, wellbeing, and active lifestyles within the campus community.

Global perspectives through diplomatic dialogue

On 28 January, MSU hosted His Excellency Ardasher S. Qodiri, Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan to Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand, for the January session of the Global Dialogue Series.

The session, titled “Tajikistan: A Historical, Cultural, and Economic Introduction,” explored regional cooperation in education, technology, trade, and cultural exchange. The dialogue encouraged stronger collaboration between Central Asia and ASEAN, highlighting opportunities for knowledge sharing, academic mobility, and economic partnerships.

Recognition in global rankings and brand awards

January also marked key institutional recognitions for MSU.

In its debut appearance in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by Subject 2026, MSU achieved a global ranking in the 501–600 band in Education Studies and Medical and Health disciplines. Within Malaysia, the university ranked 6th for Education Studies and 11th for Medical and Health.

Overall, MSU is placed among the top 601–800 universities globally in the THE World University Rankings 2026 and among the top 10 universities in Malaysia, reflecting steady progress since its earlier inclusion in the global rankings.

The university also secured its second gold award in the Education & Learning category at the Putra Aria Brands Awards 2025, following previous wins in 2024, 2023, and 2022. The recognition highlights MSU’s sustained reputation and public confidence in its academic offerings and learning environment.

Student success story: From uncertainty to excellence

Among the highlights of the month was the recognition of Theebana Durairajh, recipient of the Chancellor Gold Medal at MSU’s 36th Convocation.

Beginning her academic journey with limited exposure to technology, Theebana pursued a foundation in information technology before progressing to a Bachelor in Computer Science (Honours), majoring in software engineering. She graduated with a CGPA of 3.98 and received consistent placements on the Dean’s and President’s Lists.

Her achievements extend beyond academics. Theebana earned the Best AI Project Award at iReX 2024, a silver medal at the Malaysia Technology Expo 2025, and a gold medal at the International Invention, Innovation, and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) 2025. She also contributed to student leadership initiatives and community-driven programmes focused on women in STEM, mental health awareness, and youth education advocacy.

Her journey reflects the role of mentorship, collaborative learning, and industry-aligned education in shaping future technology leaders.

A strong start to 2026 for MSU

From academic partnerships and international research engagement to global rankings, student leadership, and community initiatives, MSU’s activities in January demonstrate a university ecosystem that extends beyond classrooms.

These developments reinforce MSU’s commitment to producing graduates equipped with global perspectives, industry-relevant skills, and leadership capabilities.

As one of the top private universities in Malaysia, MSU continues to strengthen its focus on research innovation, employability, and international collaboration; key factors shaping the future of higher education and student success.
