Sunway University is recognised as one of Malaysia’s leading private institutions, known for its focus on academic excellence, industry relevance, and impactful research.
Sunway University is taking a major step forward in creative education by forming strategic partnerships with leading organisations across the arts, media, and creative industries.
Through its Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), the university is creating stronger links between academic learning and real-world experience—giving students more opportunities to engage directly with industry.
Strategic Partnerships Across Creative Industries
Sunway University has formalised collaborations with seven key industry partners, including:
- Sony Malaysia
- Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS
- Creative Economy Agency (EKRAF)
- Sunway Square Mall
- Sunway Lagoon
- Euroasia Association of Performing Arts
- Kuala Lumpur City Opera
These partnerships reflect a shared goal: bridging the gap between education and industry practice.
Real-World Learning Opportunities for Students
The collaborations are designed to give students practical exposure through:
- Internships with industry partners
- Collaborative creative projects
- Workshops led by professionals
- Participation in live productions
This hands-on approach allows students to gain relevant experience while still studying, helping them better understand industry expectations.
A New Creative Hub at Sunway Square
FASS has also moved to an expanded campus located at Sunway Square, marking a new phase for the faculty.
The new space includes:
- Purpose-built, modern facilities
- Shared creative environments
- Collaborative workspaces
- A dynamic setting with strong industry presence
According to Professor Mayco A. Santaella, Dean of FASS, this move allows students to engage more closely with both creative work and professionals in the field.
Industry Collaboration at the Core of Education
Sunway University continues to emphasise the importance of industry partnerships in shaping relevant education.
Professor Sibrandes Poppema, President and Vice-Chancellor, highlighted that working closely with industry ensures that academic programmes remain aligned with real-world practices.
Aligning with Malaysia’s Higher Education Vision
This initiative supports the goals of the Malaysian Higher Education Plan 2026–2035, which encourages universities to stay responsive to both industry and societal needs.
By integrating learning with industry engagement, Sunway University is adapting to an evolving education landscape where practical relevance is increasingly important.
As a mission-driven fifth-generation university, Sunway University continues to promote:
- Creativity through industry exposure
- Lifelong learning opportunities
- Real-world engagement for students
At Sunway Square, these elements come together to create an environment where students can develop confidence, build connections, and find their voice within the creative industries.
