Monash University Malaysia’s School of Pharmacy Receives Full Accreditation From Pharmacy Board of Malaysia

The School of Pharmacy of Monash University Malaysia received full accreditation for its four-year Bachelor of Pharmacy program, from Lembaga Farmasi Malaysia (the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia).

Monash Malaysia - Full Accreditation from Pharmacy Board Malaysia“The full accreditation status really marks a major milestone for the Bachelor of Pharmacy program. With this accreditation, it means that the program and our graduates are recognised in Malaysia. They can thus register and practise as pharmacists in Malaysia, upon graduation and fulfillment of all internship requirements,” shared Professor Kenneth Lee, Head, School of Pharmacy, Monash University Malaysia.

He also highlighted that with this recognition, it would also help when applying for recognition in overseas professional bodies.

The Pharmacy Board of Malaysia evaluates pharmacy programs including faculty, facilities, curriculum and learning resources made available to students. ‘The role of the Board is to ensure that a program meets the required standards. We hosted the visiting panel in September and their report was favourable, especially in the aspects of our staff and facilities,’ continued Professor Lee.

Currently, the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia has 11 local and private institutions accredited in Malaysia; and 66 schools accredited internationally. The board is the accrediting agency of the pharmacy profession in Malaysia, and is under the jurisdiction of the Pharmaceutical Services Division, Ministry of Health Malaysia.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy degree programme at the Monash University Malaysia is identical to that conducted by the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Parkville campus in Melbourne. Monash has a long established history as a leading provider of pharmacy education.

Monash is ranked No. 1 in Australia and No. 7 in the world, for Pharmacy and Pharmacology (QS World Subject Ranking 2013). Students benefit from a robust curriculum supported by intelligent use of learning technology, and are also offered many opportunities to develop their clinical skills through the Professional Experience Placements which are undertaken at government hospitals, community polyclinics and community pharmacies.

The use of educational technology is evident in high tech facilities such as the Virtual Practice Environment (VPE) and the Professional Practice Suite (PPS) which are used by students to develop communication and practice skills in a professionally designed environment.

The Bachelor of Pharmacy program has an intake in February. For more information, please visit our website at www.pharm.monash.edu.my or email your enquiries to [email protected].
