GEM Patron Tan Sri Dr. Mohd. Irwan Serigar Abdullah; he is also the Secretary General of Treasury, Ministry of Finance.

“GEM will be the first NGO from a developing nation that focuses on connecting, networking and fostering collaborations to broaden Malaysia’s entrepreneurial ecosystem,” said Tan Sri Dr. Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah, patron of the organisation and the Secretary General of Treasury, Ministry of Finance, during GEM's first anniversary last 10 March at Blackbox Map, Publika.

In the spirit of Democratising Entrepreneurship by strategically aligning the various entrepreneurs’ communities with all current entrepreneurial initiatives by both the private sector and public agencies to airlift the Malaysian entrepreneurial ecosystem onto the global marketplace, GEM is unveiling their new initiatives this year.

The first one is the CollosusINNO2017 -- a challenge with a USD100,000 prize fund to reward new breakthrough solutions. Open to all ASEAN countries’ residents, ColossusINNO2017 is to inspire entrepreneurs to audaciously take on problems and find its innovative solutions. This challenge, which will be fully launched in June this year.

The other main projects also include the 10xCLUB, an effort that will recognise start-ups with a year-one revenue of RM1,000,000. This is in the hope to encourage and build icons in the entrepreneurship spheres. Lastly, GEM will also launch a magazine that will compile and archive entrepreneurship success stories -- the Global Entrepreneurship Magazine. The publication will be a platform rich in resources for aspiring entrepreneurs for tips, skills, and trends. It will be available in both digital and print format.

GEM's president, Dash Dhakshinamoorthy

GEM’S President, Dash Dhakshinamoorthy shared, “We have opened up access to more than 64 markets internationally and the time has come for us to be able to dream together to make the Malaysian entrepreneur truly global.”

With these new collaborations and programmes, GEM expects to create a positive Malaysian entrepreneurship ecosystem and in the region, by making information, tips, and insights available within and beyond the country.
