1. Know Thyself
Make a list of what you did great, what you did wrong, and what you can improve to become a better person. Reflect and identify the things you are good at and which areas you still need to improve. You’ll be a better version of yourself when you get back to school!
2. Set Your Goals
So you had written a reflection, now plan ahead by setting realistic goals for the next semester. Not necessarily a big plan, just trying something simple and keep it up for as long as you can. For example, make a new friend from your society club, read 5 good books, score better than previous semester, etc.
3. Get Fit!
Have you notice that you are running slower in the Pendidikan Jasmani class? Climb a couple of floors and you already feel tired? Notice the fats in your belly start accumulating? You might want to take this opportunity to exercise more. Try hiking or cycling with friends or family. This way, you can create memories and stay healthy together. (Refer to this article for more outdoors exercising idea)
4. Read. Write. Speak. Better
If your English is not really good, take some time in reading, writing, and practice speaking English. There is no shortcut, but to do it over and over again. You may begin with reading newspapers, writing a blog, and following some YouTube Channels to practise your listening and speaking skill. (Try JenniferESL, Speak English with Mister Duncan, British Council Lean English, etc)
5. Update your CV and Resumé
Don’t know what is a CV? You should create one! A Curricula Vitae is NOT EQUAL TO a Resumé! In short, a CV is actually a letter to “sell” yourself, it should showcase your writing skill and show everything reason why you are a good fit for the position, but a Resumé is a summary (in bullet points) of your recent education background, significant academic achievements, previous relevant working experience, area of interest, references, etc. If you already have it, remember to update them. ;)
6. Take a Part Time Job
Don’t just work for the salary, work for different exposure and experience! You are guaranteed to learn different skills throughout your stay. Also, by having a few part-time job it will enhance your CV and Resumé - Having working experience make you stand out among the other job seekers in the future. (Apply to various companies here.)
7. Work for a Greater Cause
Invite your friends to visit old folks home or an orphanage and volunteer to work for a few days. Observe the surroundings, interact and assist the residents. You will start to appreciate your life more, and realise that you do have the power to make others feel better!
8. Spend Quality Time with Your Family
While busy preparing yourself for a brighter future, don’t forget to look back and appreciate your family who have supported you all the way! Join their hobby, watch a movie together at home, discuss your own view, have some heart to heart conversation. Tell them how much you love them and appreciate them for always having your back.
9. Learn a New Skill
You have to realise that you will not live with your parents forever. Soon, you will be staying alone or with roommates in a dorm near your college campus. So, learn how to wash your clothes, cook a meal, record and manage your own expense, etc. (Read the links to learn how to Cook, Organize, and Survive)
10. Take an Online Course
Some of your subjects needed special attention yet don’t feel like going to a tuition class? Google some free online courses and follow the class schedule. By joining a class, you will have a sense of commitment to keep the assigned tasks’ deadlines. Also, are you fascinated by the beauty of foreign language? Google it up and enroll in a free online course for it! (ps: same goes for computer language like C++, HTML, Python, etc.) Invite your friends and speak the “secret language” together, your classmates will definitely be amazed. (Try Coursera, Khan Academy, Udacity, Codecademy, Duolingo, etc.)
11. Sell/Donate Things that You Don’t Use Anymore
It’s time for Spring Cleaning! Few days before the semester starts, downsize your wardrobe and decide which to sell and/or donate. You will feel a sense of fresh start and more motivated to face any challenges! (Try selling it fast via Carousell, Duriana, CLOSETStyles, Shpock, etc)
Chillax~ It’s not a must for you to do everything in the list. Just pick a few that you are really interested in, and then put them into action. Better start now than never, right?
