Harris-Stowe State University's primary mission, as set forth in Senate Bill 153, is to address the higher education needs of the metropolitan St. Louis region. Toward the fulfillment of this mandate, the University offers a solid General Education curriculum, which serves as the foundation for the University's various baccalaureate programs in three broad professional areas, including baccalaureate degree programs in business, education, and arts and sciences.
In addition, the University is thoroughly committed to meeting to the greatest extent possible the needs of a student population that is diverse in age, culture, ethnicity and experiential backgrounds. In short, Harris-Stowe State University is strongly committed to providing a high-quality higher education experience that is both affordable and accessible to the diverse populations within and beyond the metropolitan St. Louis region. The University seeks to accomplish this overarching goal through an extensive academic support program, a college-preparatory academy for urban youth, supervision of student progress and through many community outreach and collaborative partnerships with businesses, government and educational institutions.

Harris-Stowe State University’s on-campus housing offers some of the most modern student residence halls in the St. Louis area. Enjoy the luxuries of an apartment with the convenience of living on-campus with suite-style facilities, which include a furnished living room, kitchenette, dining area and private bathrooms. Located on the main campus, the residence halls are just a two-minute walk from the Dr. Henry Givens, Jr. Administration Building, where most classes are held. For business students, there is a free shuttle service that travels between Main Campus and the Anheuser-Busch School of Business from 7:30 a.m.-10:40 p.m.
The residence halls are so much more than a place to eat, sleep and study. Collectively, the residence halls house a dining hall, game room, computer lab, the University Bookstore, the Office of Student Activities, Counseling Services, Health Services, and the dean of Student Affairs. Not only are the members of these offices always ready to assist, but the director of Residential Life and resident assistants are also available to help students with their educational and personal needs. Being a member of Harris-Stowe’s friendly campus community also means having the opportunity to grow through our varied educational, social and service-orientated programs offered throughout the year.
Harris-Stowe State University is one of the most dynamic campuses in the St. Louis area. In 1999, the University opened the AT&T Library and Technology Resource Center directly across from the Dr. Henry Givens Jr. Administration Building. The AT&T Library showcases state-of-the-art technology and is a favorite of students and faculty for its research and training facilities. As part of the MOBIUS Cluster of libraries, students have access to comprehensive research materials. It is 21st-century technology for 21st-century learning. The AT&T Library was built with exceptional access to a variety of technological resources. The Telecommunity Room boasts access to satellite programming and Web seminars and with a capacity of 50, the location makes an ideal venue for distance-learning initiatives. The Seminar Room, also located in the library, is perfect for teleconferencing and live meetings with its boardroom table, which seats up to 20 individuals. The Computer Lab is a favorite room for teaching and training, with up to 20 computer stations for group-learning scenarios. The AT&T Library's open access area also contains high-speed Internet connected client stations. A casual environment, the open access area provides an excellent place for students to relax and browse the Web or do major research for their courses.
