About Duke Kunshan University

Duke Kunshan University is a Sino-American partnership of Duke University and Wuhan University to create a world class liberal arts and research university offering a range of  academic programs for students from China and throughout the world. A non-profit, joint-venture institution, Duke Kunshan University was granted accreditation approval by China’s Ministry of Education in September 2013 and welcomed its inaugural class of students in August 2014.

With the goal of spearheading the future of higher education, Duke Kunshan University is influenced and informed by both Chinese and American traditions of higher education. The shared vision of Duke University and Wuhan University is that Duke Kunshan will help address the changing needs of global higher education. Duke Kunshan offers exceptional university-operated housing for students. With an emphasis on creating a safe, healthy and inclusive environment, residence life at Duke Kunshan is viewed as an extension of the liberal arts learning experience, where diverse students are brought together to learn from one another and develop lasting relationships. The dining facility offers healthy, high quality meals, with options ranging from a salad bar to Chinese food to Western food. Other amenities such as a coffee shop and convenience store are also located in the main building.

Campus

The Duke Kunshan campus features state-of-the-art classroom and meeting facilities, extensive library resources, modern student and faculty housing and dining spaces, and excellent recreational facilities. Multi-purpose meeting spaces, break rooms, and study areas allow students to work individually or in groups to review course material, complete assignments, and participate in the vibrant, intellectual life on campus.

A free shuttle bus runs regularly between the campus and downtown Kunshan, offering students easy access to off-campus dining, shopping, recreational centres and an inter-city train station.

Mission

The city of Kunshan is situated between Shanghai and Suzhou in the heart of the Yangtze River Delta Region, one of the most developed areas in China. It is a national leader in economic growth and urban development, all without neglecting the rich historical legacy and stunning natural environment that have attracted people to this city for more than two thousand years. Kunshan is less than a 20-minute train ride by high-speed rail to both Shanghai and Suzhou.
