About Cardiff University

Cardiff University was founded in 1883. It is a research university located in the Cathays Park area of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. It received its Royal charter in 1883 and is a member of the Russell Group of Universities. There are approximately twenty seven academic schools of the University are divided into three colleges: Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences; Biomedical and Life Sciences; and Physical Sciences.

The modular system of the university provides a large degree of flexibility and choice. Many programmes allow students to defer the choice of specialism until the second year. There are also long-established links with the professions – more than 40 programmes of study are professionally accredited.

Cardiff University continues the tradition of all three of its former institutions in providing high quality research-based education in Wales, as shown in its five-year standing as the best centre of excellence in Wales in the Sunday Times League Tables. Cardiff is also the only university in Wales to be a member of the Russell Group of Research Intensive Universities.

Accommodation also provided by the university across Talybont, North Campus, Senghennydd Hall, and University Hall. All rooms in university accommodation are furnished with bed, desk and chair, bookshelf, wardrobe, and waste bin.

Campus

The university has 18 libraries (conveniently located near to subject areas) and more than 1.3 million books and journals. The entire campus area is wireless enabled, allowing students to use their own computers to access resources. There are also three sports centres located across the campus providing opportunities for all, regardless of ability or commitment. An active Athletic Union and more than 60 sports clubs catering for most sports.
 

The University is based in and around Cardiff's elegant civic centre, five minutes' walk from the city centre. There are excellent road and rail links with Britain's major towns and cities, and an international airport. Cardiff is just two hours away from the centre of London by rail or road and only an hour and a half’s drive away from Heathrow.
