Sports science is the study of the human body and understanding how to improve its potential during exercise. Our Dearest Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei has been achieving miles, but do you know what happens behind the screen? Lots of training and lots of injuries too. What are the major subjects in Sports Science?

In Sports Science, there are a number of major subjects that students can further into. Some of the branches in the course that could interest you are listed below. 

  • Physiology - A branch of biology dealing with the functions and activities of living organisms and their parts (anatomy)
  • Psychology - The discipline of psychology is a broad subject which aims to understand human mental processes, feelings and behaviours. Psychology covers aspects such as interpersonal relationships, perception, emotion, personality, leadership, language and culture.
  • Biomechanics -Study of mechanical laws relating to the movement and structure of living organisms. 
  • Nutrition - Nutrition is the science that interprets the interaction of nutrients and other substances in food in relation to maintenance, growth, reproduction, health and disease of an organism. It includes food intake, absorption, assimilation, biosynthesis, catabolism and excretion.
  • Business and Sports Management - Business management skills and knowledge to manage sports management

What are the entry requirements and qualifications?

To successfully get admission into the Sports Science programme, students must meet the minimum academic and entry-level English language requirements.

  • SPM with minimum 5 passes
  • Pass 4 relevant subjects in STPM, including English
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science or related subjects
  •  Completed any relevant Degree or any equivalent International Degree with minimum CGPA 2.0, completed a Masters Degree and/or PhD from a recognised Institutes or any equal International Institute.
