About West Liberty University

West Liberty University (WLU) is a public university based in West Liberty, West Virginia, United States. It was founded in 1837, previously known as the West Liberty State College, until it gained university status in 2008. The university is the oldest institution of higher education in West Virginia.

WLU offers a broad range of programs through its academic schools: College of Arts and Communication; Gary E. West College of Business; College of Education; College of Liberal Arts; College of Sciences; and School of Professional Studies.

Campus information

The 290-acre campus set in West Liberty, it is well-equipped with a range of facilities, including a three-story library, laboratories, greenhouse, voice and recording studios, a 450-seat auditorium that serves as recital hall and lecture hall, bookstore, art studios, art gallery, music studios and practice rooms, chapel, media arts lab, television studio, and seven residence halls. Sports facilities include a gymnasium and wellness/fitness center, multi-purpose arena, a training room, an athletic weight room, field, and courts.

The campus is located between eastern Ohio and southwestern Pennsylvania. The Oglebay Resort and Conference Center is only ten-minute drive from campus, providing an excellent venue for tennis, golf, swimming, picnicking, dining, hiking, and lodging.
