About Wayne State University

Wayne State’s mission is to create and advance knowledge, prepare a diverse student body to thrive, and positively impact local and global communities.

Wayne State will be a pre-eminent, public, urban research university known for academic and research excellence, success across a diverse student body, and meaningful engagement in its urban community.

Campus information

Founded in 1868, Wayne State University is a nationally recognized metropolitan research institution offering more than 380 academic programs through 13 schools and colleges to more than 27,000 students. Wayne State’s main campus in Midtown Detroit comprises 100 buildings over 200 acres; its five satellite campuses offer higher education to students throughout Southeast Michigan.

Detroit is a thriving cultural hub with a hotbed of artistic talent that plays host to numerous historical and architectural masterpieces concentrated in family-friendly neighborhoods within a walkable distance of Wayne State University. The campus itself is located in Detroit's Cultural Center and is surrounded by museums, galleries, theatres and other attractions.A huge urban redevelopment movement is taking place in Detroit. The new influx of people and ideas into the area means there is always something new to explore. Detroit has the look and feel of a big city when it comes to things to see and do, but it's the community spirit of a much smaller town that makes the city unique.
