Residence Halls
University of Southern Maine offers a variety of housing options and innovative programs to ease the transition to life on your own, jump start your social life and help you meet many new and diverse individuals. Each of our residence halls is overseen by a full time, live-in professional Resident Director, assisted by a student Lead Resident Assistant and Resident Assistants, who support the resident student community.

Anderson Hall
Centrally located on the Gorham campus, Anderson offers small hall living paired with plenty of common spaces to gather together. 

Philippi Hall
Opened in 2001, it provides myriad upperclass housing options and Gender Neutral living in most rooms. Home to the upper-class Honors and Pioneers Living Learning Community and the Rainbow Living Learning Community. More...

Robie Andrews Hall
A charming hall, neighboring the performing and fine arts classroom buildings, this hall is popular with our returning residents and first year students alike.

Woodward Hall
Home to USM's Russell Scholars Program, it is small yet dynamic. Convenient to Bailey Hall, Brooks Student Center and academic and administrative resources. 

Upperclass Hall
Built adjacent to the Paula Hodgdon Athletic field, Upperclass Hall has the distinction of being the first LEED certified residence hall at USM. Provides apartment style living, Gender Neutral options, and other amenities for upperclass and graduate students. 

All residence halls are located on the Gorham campus and include:

Just 11 miles from Portland is our expansive, residential Gorham campus, the center of undergraduate life at USM. This energetic, welcoming community buzzes with student activities, labs and classes, athletic events, music and performing arts, entertainment, and plenty of fun.

USM's Portland campus is at the heart of Maine's largest city, a lively, livable community on beautiful Casco Bay. Home to outstanding academic programs, the Portland campus is part of an urban hotspot, nationally known for its arts and culture, outdoor recreation — and amazing food.

Lewiston Campus: Learn and Grow through Community Engagement

USM's Lewiston-Auburn College (LAC) offers a small college atmosphere with all the excitement of an engaged metropolitan university. On this supportive, multicultural campus, students integrate their academic programs with service-learning opportunities that enrich their college experience.

Portland Maine's largest city has capitalized on the gifts of its port history – the redbrick warehouse buildings, the Victorian shipbuilders' mansions, the narrow cobblestone streets – to become one of the hippest, most vibrant small cities in America. With a lively waterfront, excellent museums and art galleries, abundant green space, and a food scene worthy of a town many times its size, it's worth much more than a quick stopover.

On a peninsula jutting into the grey waters of Casco Bay, Portland's always been a city of the sea. Established in 1633 as a fishing village, it grew to become New England's largest port. Today, the Old Port district is the town's historic heart, with handsomely restored brick buildings filled with cafes, shops and bars. The working wharves keep things from getting too precious or museum-like, though, as fishmongers in rubber boots mingle with well-heeled Yankee matrons.

Congress St is the main thoroughfare through downtown, passing Portland's most imposing buildings: city hall, banks, churches and hotels. Commercial St, where many businesses are located, runs the length of the harbor. Two promenades (upscale Western and more workaday Eastern) frame downtown Portland at opposite ends of the peninsula. The West End neighborhood is home to an impressive collection of 19th-century mansions and the bulk of the city's charming B&Bs. In the east, Munjoy Hill is Portland's up-and-coming hipster enclave.
