UC Hastings campus spreads among three main buildings located near San Francisco's Civic Center: 200 McAllister Street houses academic space and administrative offices,[6] 198 McAllister contains mainly classrooms and faculty offices, and 100 McAllister (known casually as "The Tower") is student housing

The campus is within walking distance of the Muni Metro and Bay Area Rapid Transit Civic Center/UN Plaza Station. UC Hastings is commonly but affectionately derided by students and alums as being located in the ugliest corner of the most beautiful city in the world. Indeed, the school has been referred to in jest as "UC Tenderloin."

Located within a two-block radius of the campus is the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the United States District Court for the Northern District of California, the California Supreme Court, the California Court of Appeal for the First District, San Francisco Superior Court, San Francisco City Hall, United Nations Plaza (and Federal Building Annex), the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, and the Main Library of the San Francisco Public Library system. The heavy concentration of public buildings within the Civic Center, as well as the high crime rate, result in heavy police presence, and high security, around UC Hastings.

Situated in the heart of San Francisco's Civic Center, UC Hastings offers access to every level of the judiciary, with the exception of the U.S. Supreme Court. In addition, many of the city's top attractions are just blocks away.

All students admitted to UC Hastings College of the Law are eligible for residency at McAllister Tower.

Once admitted to UC Hastings, students are eligible to apply for an apartment in the Tower. Apartments are assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Once assigned an apartment, students are permitted to live in the Tower for all three years of study.

Due to the limited number of apartments, new students who are interested in residing at McAllister Tower are encouraged to apply immediately following acceptance to UC Hastings. A $300.00 NON-REFUNDABLE processing fee is required to be submitted with the application form. The processing fee will be applied towards first month’s rent when an apartment is assigned. The fee is non-refundable if the student withdraws his or her application.

Apartment Assignments
Students who complete the application and submit the processing fee will be assigned an apartment in the order that applications are received. Students are encouraged to indicate the size of unit they prefer. Every effort will be made to satisfy the stated preference.

Term of Occupancy
The term of occupancy is from August through May, unless otherwise agreed upon. Further details are provided in the rental agreement. Arrangements may be made for summer occupancy.

Furnished Efficiency Units
Hastings has approximately 10 furnished units reserved for LLM students. These furnished efficiency units are approximately 250 sq. ft. The units include a twin size bed, a chest of drawers, a desk, a table and a chair. We do not provide linen, cookware, microwave oven or incidental items. We allow only one person in these units so if you plan to have out of town guests, you will want to plan accordingly. All units include a full bathroom, a modular kitchen unit and ample closet space. The modular kitchen unit includes a dorm size refrigerator, sink with disposal and 2 to 3 burner stove with oven.

Unfurnished Efficiency Units
Our unfurnished efficiency units are approximately 250 sq. ft. These units fit a twin size bed best to allow space for a table, a chair and bookcase. We allow only one person in the efficiency units so if you plan to invite out of town guests, you will want to plan accordingly. 

All units include a full bathroom, a modular kitchen unit and ample closet space. The modular kitchen unit includes a dorm size refrigerator, sink with disposal and 2 to 3 burner stove with oven.

Studio Units
Our studio units are approximately 350 sq. ft. These units should fit a double or queen size bed, a table with two chairs, a loveseat or lounge chair and a bookcase with a small miscellaneous  piece of furniture. We allow two students maximum in these units. 

All units include a full bathroom, a modular kitchen unit and ample closet space. The modular kitchen unit includes a dorm size refrigerator, sink with disposal and 2 to 3 burner stove with oven.

One & Two Bedroom Units
The one bedroom units are approximately 500 sq. ft. There is a bedroom and a living room. The bedroom will fit a double or queen size bed, a nightstand and dresser. The living room should fit a sofa, coffee table, desk and two chairs. 

The two bedroom units are approximately 850 sq. ft. There are two bedrooms and a living room. The bedrooms should accommodate a double or queen sized bed, a nightstand and dresser. The living room should fit a sofa, coffee table, table for dining or desk with two chairs. We allow two students maximum in the one and two bedroom units. 

All units include a full bathroom, a modular kitchen unit and ample closet space. The modular kitchen unit includes a dorm size refrigerator, sink with disposal and 2 to 3 burner stove with oven. In addition, Hastings provides an apartment size refrigerator for the two bedroom units.

Penthouse Units
The two bedroom penthouse units are approximately 1,140 sq. ft. The unit has two bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a dining area, living room and upgraded kitchen with tiled counter. Only one penthouse unit includes an outdoor deck and a laundry room with a washer and dryer. The penthouse units are unfurnished.
