About University of Akron
The University of Akron is public research university and it is part of the University System of Ohio. The university was founded in 1870 as a Buchtel College affiliated with Unicersalist Church.
Akron offers more than 200 undergraduate majors and 100 gradute majors for students. The University's best-known program is its College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering.
According to the U.S. News & World Report, Akron also is the only public university in Ohio with a science and engineering program ranked in the top five in nation.
