A town of about 25,000 people, our community offers the best of rural and urban living. Centrally located among three of Tennessee’s largest cities, the campus is surrounded by lakes, state parks, mountains and rivers in one of the most ecologically diverse climates in the nation.
Nearly two-thirds of all students receive some form of financial aid, either from the state or federal government, the university, or private funds.
Founded in 1915, Tennessee Tech is governed by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
Tennessee Tech is located in Cookeville, a town of about 25,000. Cookeville’s location — approximately 82 miles east of Nashville, 109 miles west of Knoxville and 96 miles north of Chattanooga — offers the best of both rural and urban living.
We’re located within minutes of three lakes — Dale Hollow, Center Hill and Cordell Hull — and near various scenic parks like Cane Creek, Burgess Falls and Fall Creek Falls. Swim, hike, canoe, boat, fish, hunt, backpack, picnic and camp to your heart’s content in your new backyard.
You won’t have to give up seeing live music and arts in this town. There’s a drama center, a university based symphony, art galleries, museums and a world-renown craft center.
You can shop, go to the movies (even at a revived drive-in), visit local coffee shops, eat at a variety of restaurants (including Mexican, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Thai and more), and play golf without making a dent in your gas budget.
Tennessee Tech has 16 residence halls: 2 halls for men and 1 hall for women, and 13 co-ed halls, accommodating approximately 2,650 students. Rooms are designed for double occupancy; however, a few single and triple rooms are available. Rooms are furnished to include standard twin beds or loft beds and mattresses, desks, chairs, dressers, telephone, smoke detector, window shades, closets, and a wastebasket. Students may provide their own personal items to make their room more unique and comfortable. Your residence hall room will soon feel more like home after you have added your own personal touches.
Additionally, all rooms receive expanded basic cable service at no additional charge. All 16 residence halls are wired for ResNet. ResNet is short for Residence Hall Computer Network. Each of these hall rooms has a ResNet connection for each occupant, providing they have a personal computer. Residents also have access to VAX labs in designated residence hall lobbies. All residence hall students will have a voice mailbox assigned to them to be used in conjunction with their telephone service. All residence halls have laundry facilities.
