About Pennsylvania State University

The Pennsylvania State University (also known as Penn State or PSU) is a public, state-related research university with campuses and facilities in Pennsylvania. The university was founded in 1855.

Its instructional mission includes undergraduate, graduate, professional and continuing education offered through resident instruction and online delivery. The university offers more than 160 majors among all its campuses.

The University Park campus is organized into fourteen distinct colleges which are College of Agricultural Sciences, College of Arts and Architecture, Smeal College of Business, College of Communications, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Health and Human Development, College of Information Sciences and Technology, College of the Liberal Arts, Eberly College of Science, Graduate School, Schreyer Honors College, and School of Nursing.

According to the 2010 Academic Ranking of World Universities ranks the university 43rd among universities worldwide. U.S. News & World Report ranks the university's undergraduate program 45th in its 2012 American's Best College. In 2011, the university was also ranked 94th in the QS World University Rankings.

Campus information

There are few libraries in PSU including Paterno Library, Pattee Library, and Branch Libraries. The libraries offer a 24-hour facility, technology and research help in one location, a Media Commons, circulating laptops and iPads, collaborative study spaces with Mediascapes, solo space when desired, other equipment, and more.

The official recreation site of PSU provides various activities through facilities such as ice rink, natatorium, tennis center, IM building, recreation hall, White building, multi-sport, and Stone Valley. Stone Valley is a natural treasure nestled in the rolling hills of Central Pennsylvania. Students and visitors could enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, and climbing at Stone Valley area.

Residence Halls are provided as well including Eastview Terrace and Nittany Apartment. All basic amenties such as bed, book shelf, drawers, wardrobe, and trash can will be provided in each room.

PSU consists 24 campuses throughout Pennsylvania. The largest of university's 24 campuses, University Park is almost entirely within the boundaries of State College borough, a site chosen to be near the geographic center of the state.
