About Paier College of Art

Paier College of Art takes pride in over sixty years of training and educating artists. We are proud of the achievements of our students and alumni. These individuals continue to receive high recognition from organizations representing the best in their chosen fields. Paier students and alumni continue to enjoy successful careers in the visual arts.

Although the tools and methods of art are constantly changing, the strengths of our college have not. Computers have indeed become an important part of the artist's portfolio. These technologies are reflected in all our departments, and the computer labs are well equipped with the current hardware and software.

However, at Paier, computers are not an exclusive focus. In many respects, as the power of digital imaging and communication increases, the need for artistic fundamentals becomes even more important.

Recognizing that, our Foundation Year studies are still executed in pencil, pen, brush, and camera. The General Education Department also offers challenging courses in the liberal arts, contributing to the development of the literate artist. Those who have the desire and ability to develop as artists are a select few. Paier College is dedicated to them—the future leaders in craft, communication, and culture.

Campus information

The Paier College campus consists of five buildings located in Hamden, CT (pop. 59,000), in a neighborhood setting within a suburban locale just north of New Haven (pop. 124,000). Eight colleges and universities, as well as other cultural centers the Yale Gallery, the Peabody Museum, the Mellon Center for British Art; the Beinecke Rare Book Library; the Shubert, Long Wharf, and Yale Repertory Theaters; as well as many other visual and performing arts facilities are all within easy access to the College. Greater New Haven also offers a wide array of restaurants, hotels, shopping malls, and historic sites, as well as entertainment and recreational areas that provide a varied and stimulating environment for Paier students.

Paier is also situated just minutes south of the Wilbur Cross Parkway (Rte. 15) and is within easy reach of the Hartford Capital region (38 miles), New York City (78 miles), and Boston (154 miles) by car, bus, or train. Connecticut, southernmost of the New England states, offers access to beaches, lakes, rivers, mountains, and a variety of scenic and outdoor activities. In fact, all of the northeast, rich in the traditions of early America, and alive with creative energy and a long-standing commitment to education, surrounds the Paier student with almost limitless opportunities of diverse cultural experience.
