About Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts

Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts is a four-year, nationally-accredited college offering Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Drawing, Illustration, Painting, and Sculpture. Its mission is to provide the best education in drawing, illustration, painting, and sculpture through study of the history, traditions, and principles of the fine arts and the liberal arts, thereby establishing a comprehensive foundation for the development of the artist.

Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts became affiliated with the University of New Haven in 2014, becoming the University’s sixth college. The University of New Haven is a private, top-tier comprehensive institution recognized as a national leader in experiential education.

Campus information

Lyme Academy College offers a number of academic, career and student services in order to help support a vital career as an artist.

The studio is the center of your day at Lyme Academy College, but after classes end the campus takes on another life.  With studios open until midnight or beyond, many students work late into the night, creating, collaborating and having fun.

Weekends aren’t just for homework; they’re for hiking in the local hills, walking along our pleasant beaches or just relaxing in one of our quaint coffee shops. For those in need of a little more excitement, Connecticut’s capital city of Hartford and the vibrant college town of New Haven, where Yale University is located, are both less than 45 minutes away. Similarly, New York and Boston are both just two hours by train or car.

Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts is located in Old Lyme, Connecticut – one of several towns that make up the primary region of the Connecticut River Valley in the heart of New England.

Old Lyme’s central location and proximity to major highways and public transportation makes for easy day-trips to New York City, Boston and Hartford – home to some of the best museums in the world.

Just 45 minutes west of Old Lyme is New Haven – home to Yale University and many galleries, art venues, restaurants and shopping. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Connecticut’s shoreline, the campus offers the space and atmosphere that allows students to devote themselves to their creative and academic studies.

Accommodation

On Campus Housing at Southwick Commons: 
Lyme Academy College offers a housing option for Certificate and BFA students.  The newly constructed, fully furnished townhouses are located immediately across the street from the College and include garages.  Each townhouse features a kitchen, two bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a laundry and a common area.  

Off Campus Housing: 
There are many unique boarding opportunities and beach houses readily available in the beautiful, historic town of Old Lyme.  While the College does not make arrangements for off-campus housing, the Director of Campus Life maintains a list of available properties and is available to assist you with your search and / or help you find a roommate.
