Illinois State University’s campus is in the twin-city community of Bloomington-Normal near the geographic center of the state, 137 miles southwest of Chicago and 164 miles northeast of St. Louis. Interstates 74, 55, and 39; U.S. Route 150; and Illinois Route 9 intersect in Bloomington-Normal, creating a transportation hub.
Living in Residence Halls
The University’s undergraduate housing is clustered in four neighborhoods located across Illinois State’s 850-acre campus. The four areas include Hewett and Manchester Halls, Tri-Towers, Watterson Towers, and Cardinal Court. All are within walking distance from the University’s picturesque Quad. Each area provides its own unique feel.
Living in Cardinal Court
Cardinal Court houses 894 undergraduate students (primarily sophomores) in 227 furnished apartments. It provides a unique opportunity to experience apartment-style living with the benefits of living in university housing. Cardinal Court is within walking distance to campus and is also on the campus shuttle route.
Amenities include full kitchens (dishwasher, microwave, stove, and refrigerator with ice maker); a mix of community and in-unit laundry facilities; on-site parking; wireless Internet access; and a Community Center with study areas, a small theater, dining venue, gymnasium, fitness center, and game area.
Living in Apartments
Owned and managed by the University, Shelbourne Drive apartments are available for students who are married or in a domestic partnership, or are in graduate school, or a single parent, and who desire a quiet family atmosphere. Upper class and graduate students without dependents have the option of Fell Avenue and School Street apartments.
