Cheyney University of Pennsylvania is known as the first institution of higher learning for African Americans.  

Cheyney University students represent a variety of races, cultures, and nationalities who receive education instruction beyond the vision of Richard Humphreys.

Cheyney graduates still become teachers, but students also enter careers such as journalism, medicine, business, science, law, communication, and government service.

The university offers baccalaureate degrees in more than 30 disciplines and the master’s degree in education.

Cheyney University is proud of its more than 30,000 graduates. 

Campus information

Cheyney University at Center City is conveniently located in Philadelphia at 701 Market Street on the concourse level of the historic Mellon Independence Center. Public transportation including SEPTA buses, regional rail, and subways are just steps away. 

Cheyney straddles the border between Thornbury Township in Chester County and Thornbury Township in Delaware County.. Both township offices are located along Cheyney Road next to the university.

Accommodation

Room selection at Cheyney University is an online process. 

After a new or returning student completes an online application and pays their Room Reservation Deposit, he/she will have the ability to select the residence hall and living space where they wish to reside, if eligible. 

Room selection is based on eligibility and availability. The room selection process is done on a first come, first served system. Students who are eligible to participate in the Room Selection Process may do so as long as space is available. Students are advised that they will not be guaranteed a housing assignment until all University business has been resolved.

The University reserves the right to make reassignments at any time based on Policies and procedures disputed by the office of Student Affairs.
