About Brooklyn College

Brooklyn College is an integral part of the civic, urban, and artistic energy of New York and uses the entire city as a living classroom that broadens our students' understanding of the world around them.

For more than 85 years, the college has been attracting a wide variety of motivated students — many of them immigrants or the children of immigrants who wish to better their lives through a superb education. They come because of the college's renowed faculty of academics, professionals, and artists who are among the best in their field. They know they will be learning on a campus considered one of the most beautiful in the country, with well-equipped facilities, studios, smart classrooms, and production and practice rooms — all with a highly affordable tuition

Campus information

Brooklyn College has always had beautifully architectured designs, right from the beginning in the 1930s. The original design was a classical Georgian-style building to be constructed on 26 acres, along with a lily pond, gardens, and grassy quadrangles planted with elm trees. The classrooms, lecture halls, art studios, and science laboratories were built to be the best in the country.

Brooklyn College has remained a gorgeous metropolitan area ever since back then. The lily pond, gardens, and elm trees are still strong, and the four original buildings are constantly being refurbished to reflect the expanding needs of our campus community. Light-filled art studio and gallery spaces have been added to the Boylan Hall, while the lower level has a full-serviced cafeteria. Ingersoll Hall, the main science building, has been extended on either side for more labs and lecture halls as well as for the Aquatic Research and Environmental Assessment Center, an important resource for the city's waterways. The Brooklyn College Library went through an extensive enlargement and  refurbishing several years ago and now offers students not only access to an increased collection and computer services, but to comfortable rooms and nooks to study and rest between classes. Finally, Roosevelt Hall was also extended and is slated to be completely re-envisioned, transformed from a physical education facility to a science complex that will increase the college's research capabilities.

Recent additions to the campus include the West End Building, which houses computer labs, the Department of Film and student club rooms right next to the tennis courts. The Library Café is a full-service Internet café that is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week; the adjacent terrace is the perfect spot for reading, snacking, and relaxing on pleasant days. Our newest structure, the West Quad Center, opened in 2009 and is home to most student services and recreational and fitness facilities.

Brooklyn College is constructing a new center for the performing arts, which will provide a fitting home for its award-winning performance programs. The college is also deep into the planning stages for a new state-of-the-art science complex. Brooklyn College is located in a few neighborhoods. Hence, the college is easily accesible by car and for students that prefer public transportation, the bus works well too. Brooklyn is a transit hub for all public transportations, so you'll be able to enjoy all that the borough has to offer.

Opened in 2010, the Residence Hall offers you the opportunity to live away from home, whether you're from Brooklyn or Brazil, with all the comforts you're used to plus added conveniences — at a fraction of city housing costs.

Located just two blocks away from campus, the Residence Hall offers you the choice of different room configurations — from semi-private to dorm shares — all fully furnished and complete with well-equipped kitchenettes. All utilities — Wi-Fi, cable hookup, electricity and air conditioning — are included. Other amenities include an on-site fitness center, study rooms, laundry facilities, meeting lounges and an outdoor courtyard.

You'll have the benefit of 24/7 doorman and security services as well as shuttle service to and from campus. The Residence Hall is close to mass transit, so you'll have easy access to other parts of Brooklyn and the rest of New York.
