About Augustana University
Most of our current students will tell you that their campus visit played a major role in their decision to choose Augustana. There is no way to adequately describe the incredible sense of community here; you simply have to experience it. While you are here, you'll walk around our beautiful and ever-changing 100-acre campus, observe students and faculty engaged in classrooms and labs, sample the social scene in the Commons, and be greeted along the way by people you have never met before.
Augustana thrives in Sioux Falls, a city known as one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the heartland of America. A city of more than 173,000, it is the largest city in South Dakota. Our residents are known for their hospitality and rejoice in the beauty of four distinct seasons, which provide a variety of outdoor recreational activities.
Sioux Falls is the business, health care, shopping, entertainment, and cultural center of the region. Our largest employers include Sanford Health, Avera McKennan Hospital, Wells Fargo, Citigroup, and the Sioux Falls School District. These organizations represent a small sampling of the many internships, practicums, and part-time jobs that enhance and support the education of Augustana students. For example, our students may join scientists from around the world at the EROS Data Center to work on United Nations projects and to study satellite imagery.
Augustana is a residential university committed to learning and growth beyond the classroom. Our Campus Life program is grounded in a commitment to not only support each student's academic pursuits, but to contribute to the personal growth of students through a wide variety of programs and activities.
Augustana affirms the value of living in community and, therefore, requires students to live in university-owned housing. Approximately three-fourths of the student body live in residence halls, apartments, and theme houses managed by Campus Life. Here, students are able to make connections between their academic and social experiences, truly living and learning in an inviting and comfortable campus environment.
