About West Suffolk College

West Suffolk College is a rural further education college with its main campus located in Out Risbygate and Construction and Building Services at Anglian Lane, both within Bury St Edmunds. The College has more than 18,000 students; and serves the community through Local Learning Centres in Stowmarket, Thurston, Haverhill, Newmarket, Sudbury and Mildenhall.

The college was founded in 1951 as The Bury St Edmunds Technical Institute and was based at the Silver Jubilee School. The courses provided at this time were largely Engineering, Construction, Building and vocational evening classes.

The primary purpose of West Suffolk College is to provide excellent education and training, developing skills that contribute to the success of the individual and the economy. And, the college has won several awards such as stated below:-

The courses offered are Art and Design, Graphic Design, Business and Management, Logistics and Transport, Hospitality and Event Management, Computing, Construction and Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Children's Care, and Learning and Development.

Campus information

The college do offers various facilities to the students including Performing Arts theatre "The Inspire Theatre", creative media production suite, arts studio, the college shop, Zest The Restaurant, In Vogue Salon, library and so on.

For students who seek for career information, advice, and guidance, the information is available to you at the college and the college's LEAP centres in Stowmarket, Sudbury, Haverhill and Mildenhall.

For the young's person's guidance advisor (19 and under) is based in Student Welfare and is available for one to one guidance appointments.

There are two campuses in Bury St Edmunds - Risbygate and The Milburn Centre Centres in Haverhill, Mildenhall,Stowmarket, Sudbury and Ipswich. 

West Suffolk College is situated 1.5km west of Bury St Edmunds town centre, the bus and rail stations and 1.5km from the A14 (Bury St Edmunds West) junction.
