Entry Requirements

Admission requirements include:

  • A minimum of 42 credits at NCEA level 3 or higher on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), including a minimum of 14 credits at level 3 or higher in each of two subjects from an approved subject list with a further 14 credits at NCEA level 3 or higher taken from no more than two additional domains on the NQF or approved subjects list,or equivalent and
  • A minimum of 14 credits at NCEA level 1or higher in Mathematics or Pangarau,on the NQF,or equivalent and
  • A minimum of 8 credits at level 2 or higher in English or Te Reo Māori; 4 credits of which must be in Reading and 4 credits must be Writing. These literacy credits must be selected from a schedule of approved achievement standards and unit standards,or equivalent and
  • At least 12 credits at level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework in Biology, Chemistry Science or Physics, or equivalent
  • Or Candidates are required to have gained 80 credits at NCEA Level 2 with the following minimum requirements:
  • 40 of the 80 credits must be at merit or excellence, or equivalent
  • These credits must include a minimum of 4 credits each in reading and writing in either English or Māori, or equivalent
  • A minimum of 12 credits are required to be in Biology, Physics, Science and/or Physics, or equivalent
  • 14 credits at Level 1 of higher is required in Mathematics, or equivalent
  • Candidates who have English as a second language are required to have an International English Language Test System (IELTS) score of 6.5 across all bands; or equivalent.
  • Candidates are required to indicate whether they have been convicted of, or are being prosecuted for,a criminal offence, as some types of criminal conviction may prevent registration as a Nurse.
  • Candidates are required to have basic computing skills,and demonstrate strong communication skills and self-responsibility in relation to their learning and their practice.
  • Candidates are also required to indicate whether they have had any physical or mentalhealth conditions which may prevent registration. Before undertaking clinical practice within the programme, candidates are required to make a declaration of health status and complete an assessment by the Wintee Health Centre.
  • Special admission may be granted to candidates aged 20 years or over who do not meet the specified entry requirements.
