About Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences

Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences is one of the major universities of applied sciences in the Netherlands. Currently, almost 30,000 students are working on their professional future at the university of applied sciences. The University is located in the city of Rotterdam, The Netherlands. It was established in 1988 by a large-scale merger of 19 higher education schools followed by a merger with the Hogeschool voor Economische Studies (HES). It holds class at ten locations in Rotterdam and one in neighbouring city Dordrecht. 

Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences is a dynamic knowledge institute for higher professional education. Over 30,000 students and around 3,000 members of staff are pursuing their career here - the typical Rotterdam way: through the Rotterdam Educational Model providing practice-focused, well-considered, flexible education that allows all students and staff to play an important role in real, innovative projects. 

Education at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences has been developed to combine a mixture of knowledge accumulation, practical experience, and personal development, reflecting the practical, innovative, and hands-on mentality associated with the city of Rotterdam. Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences offers a range of international study programmes at undergraduate (Bachelor) and postgraduate (Master) levels. We also offer special preparation programmes for Bachelor and Master Programmes, as well as accelerated programmes, exchange programmes for students from partner universities, summer courses and tailor-made business courses.

A major factor of the University's success is staying closely tuned in to the pulse of the city of Rotterdam. There is also a vast international network of partner universities as well as corporate relations. Together with those partners the University can offer its students the global outlook needed to thrive. Over 40 different nationalities are represented amongst the student population, which is the ideal environment to prepare for an international career.

Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences has 13 locations all over the city. Almost all of the locations are in easy reach of the same metro line. The main locations are:

  • Academieplein
  • Kralingse Zoom

Most programmes taught in English are provided at the Kralingse Zoom location.

By car 

Kralingse Zoom is next to Brainpark en opposite the Novotel.  At the A16 take exit 25 Centrum. Follow the signs Brainpark/Centrum, keep the right lane before the gasstation. Than turn right again, the Hogeschool Rotterdam building is immediately on the left. 

By Public Transport

From Rotterdam Central station metroline D to De Akkers or line E to Slinge. Change to lines A, B or C to Nesselande at Beurs station. Get off at Kralingse Zoom en walk 8 minutes southwards, past the Brainpark.

Accommodation

Finding good, affordable accommodation in a country as crowded as Holland is not easy. Almost all student cities are facing shortages. Even for Dutch students it is hard to find their own accomodation on the private market. Therefore a lot of students live with their parents
