About
MBBS Honours programme is a 5-year programme that provides general medical education, suitable for all types of doctors and serves as a foundation for later career specialisation.
Students will be able to develop their clinical skills from the beginning of Year 1 as they will be in contact with patients and visits to general practices and hospitals.
NUMed produces graduates who are fit to practice as doctors in line with professional standards set by General Medical Council, UK and Malaysian Medical Council.

Entry Requirements
Whatever pre-university qualifications you offer, they should include the science subjects Biology, Chemistry, and Physics/Mathematics at a level equivalent to A-Level, International Baccalaureate Diploma or STPM.
A UCAT result is currently not required for entry to NUMed Malaysia. The entrance requirements below apply to 2022 entry.

Curriculum
Years 1 and 2
The first two years of the MBBS programme are delivered through a mixed case-based approach
and early clinical and community experience. Teaching is integrated and the context of what you
are taught is given by relating everything back to clinically relevant cases. During Years 1 and 2, you
learn about abnormal and normal structures and functions of the major body systems.
You will cover a series of twenty-three clinical cases to put your learning into context and provide you with the essentials of medical practice.
Years 3 to 5
In Years 3 to 5, you will gain clinical experience through placements in the government hospitals and community clinics of the state of Johor.
Year 3
In Semester 1 of Year 3, you will undertake a clinical rotation that focuses on an introduction to clinical practice. This is followed by placements in medicine, surgery and primary care where you will be embedded as part of a clinical team.
In Semester 2, you will undertake a further series of clinical placements in mental health, child and adolescent health, and reproductive health. Year 3 will conclude with a four-week Student Selected Component (SSC), where you will undertake a supervised clinical placement covering a topic of your choice.
Year 4
In Semester 1 of Year 4, you will undertake a 14-week block of study on clinical decision making. The subjects covered in Semester 1 will cover all of the clinical sciences with a particular focus on investigative medicine. Alongside this, there is a longitudinal integrated clerkship known as 'advance medical practice' that runs throughout Semester 1 and 2. As part of this course you will follow a panel of patients throughout their journey through their medical care.
Towards the end of Year 4, you will undertake your second SSC of the curriculum. Year 4 finishes with the eight-week elective. The elective is an opportunity for you to experience medicine almost anywhere in the world. For many students, this is the highlight of their medical studies. The elective also provides an opportunity to undertake a period of study with our colleagues in the UK or elsewhere.
Year 5
In Semester 1 of Year 5, you will revisit and enhance your skills and knowledge with clinical rotations in mental health, child and adolescent health, women’s health and primary care.
You will also undertake a course that prepares you for practice as House Officer – this focuses on regulatory issues, advanced communication, prescribing and working under pressure. The course concludes with ‘finishing school’ rotation in acute care and further assistantships in medicine, surgery and primary care.
